East Barre

EAST BARRE - Yvonne C. Tremblay, 81, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, after a wonderful day spent with family and friends and the blessing and final rights of Father Michael Carter.

Yvonne Cecile (Weydener) Tremblay was born on September 23, 1942, in Plattsburg, New York. She was the daughter of Bernard and Annette (Lavigne) Weydener and the sister of Diane Weydener. The family moved to Brooklyn, New York when she was 3 years old. There, she attended graded school and graduated from Bushwick High School in Brooklyn in 1960.

She then went to work at the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City until she moved to Vermont in 1963.

On June 15, 1963, she married the love of her life, Ronald (RED) Tremblay at Mother Cabrine Catholic Church in East Barre. They raised their four children Ronald, Michael, Denise, and William at their home in East Barre.

During the first few years of marriage, she worked for Sprague Electric and part-time for the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in the license division. Then when her mother passed, she stayed at home to raise her children. She also ran a daycare out of her home for many years for other families and for her grandchildren. Around the year 2000, she gave up daycare and went on the road with her husband across the country in his tractor trailer for work for about six years. She enjoyed her time spent with her husband and seeing all the different states. After six years on the road, she stayed home to enjoy her pets and family. Her husband retired in December 2007. They enjoyed their time together at home with their animals, watching television and spending a lot of precious time with their children and grandchildren and they also enjoyed going out with friends and family to the American Legion and several other small bars.

Yvonne continued to enjoy caring for her grandchildren and spending time with her family after her husband passed away in 2008. She got her driver's license at the age of 66, which gave her independence and freedom to go be with family, friends and run errands. She loved to play cribbage, solitaire, and Yahtzee and also knit and crochet. She made many mittens, hats, scarfs, Afghans, baby blankets, slippers, and wash cloths for family and friends. She also loved her soap operas and several television shows and movies and enjoyed listening to her favorite music CD’s.

Survivors include her son Ronald Tremblay and his wife, Lisa;  her son Michael Tremblay; her daughter Denise Shepard and her husband, Craig; and her son William Tremblay and his wife, Kimberly;  her 11 grandchildren Monica Tremblay, Vanessa Tremblay, Brett Tremblay, Bailee Tremblay, Joshua Dexter, Jordan Dexter, Jessica Shepard, Michael Tremblay, Amy Tremblay, Kristopher Tremblay, and Kody Tremblay; and many great-grandchildren; her  sisters-in-law; Jean (Tremblay) Sjoquist, Sandy Tremblay and Deborah Tremblay; her brothers-in-law James MacDonald, and Roger Tremblay and his wife, Joanne as well as cousins, nieces,  nephews and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Ronald, her only sister Diane and her husband’s parents as well as her sister-in-law Gloria MacDonald, and her brothers-in-law Mervyn Sjoquist, David Tremblay, and Russell Tremblay.

Yvonne enjoyed time with all her pets and had many dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds throughout her life which were loved with her whole heart. In her later years, she loved her last dog Calley and cat Molly and bird Casey. Molly is the last living pet and will be cared for by her son William and his wife Kimberly.

Her kind heart, warm smile, and love for her family and friends will be forever cherished and she will be missed by so many lives that she has touched.

The Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre.
