BARRE – William H. Santin, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester with his loving family by his side.
Born on April 13, 1933, in Barre, he was the son of Enrico and Thelma (Miner) Santin. He attended elementary school at the old Lincoln School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1951.
Following his schooling, Bill was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 where he served in the 74th Infantry Regiment in Fort Devins, Massachusetts as well as playing the trumpet in the regimental band. He earned the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1955.
On June 21, 1957, he married the love of his life, Janet McLeod, also of Barre. They made their home in Barre where they raised their three wonderful children. Janet passed away in 2016.
Bill began his working career in 1955 with New England Telephone where he worked as a cable splicer for 34 years, retiring in 1989.
Some of Bill’s favorite hobbies included woodworking, coin collecting, restoring antiques and most importantly spending time with his beloved family. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #10 in Barre for over 67 years.
Survivors include children Sherri Mead and her husband, Karl of Grand Rapids, MI; Sandi Sicotte and her husband, Fred of Colchester; and William Santin, Jr. and his wife, Tammy of Barre. He also leaves seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his brother Gary Santin and his wife, Mary Lou as well as his longtime friend and neighbor, Tim Ramon.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Janet, his parents, his sister Carole Guerin and a special aunt, Evelyn Milne. He was laid to rest in the family mausoleum at Hope Cemetery in Barre with a military send off on August 22,2024.
