BARRE – William J. “Bill” McDiarmid, 75, left this world unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2024, at his home.
Born on January 22, 1949, in Worcester, MA, he was the son of George F. and Rita (Petty)McDiarmid. Bill was an adventurous loving child, the oldest of five siblings.
He attended Cathedral High School and the American International College.
In the spring of 1967, he met the love of his life, Diane A. LaVallie. On March 2, 1968, Bill finally worked up the courage to take Diane on their first date and from that moment they were inseparable and began building their lives together.
On February 25, 1969, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he flew and worked on B52’s something he enjoyed very much. He was very proud of his service to our country during his time with the air force. He was honorably discharged in May of 1973 and returned home to Massachusetts.
In March of 1972, Bill and Diane welcomed their first child, Michelle Diane, into the world. After a few years, they welcomed their first granddaughter, Stephanie Alice. Bill and Stephanie shared a special bond. In 1990, Bill, Diane and Stephanie made the move to Vermont and years later welcomed two more grandchildren Kaitlynn Michelle and Lilac Mae. In 2009, he became a great-grandfather to Oliva Grace. Bill lived for all his girls and was just amazing and full of love! In 2012, his great-grandson Liam George was born and quickly became the apple of his eye-the two of them shared a bond like no other and William was the proudest dad, husband, Papa and great Papa to his family. His family was his everything. He worked hard his entire life to bring endless love and happiness to them.
Survivors include his loving wife, Diane McDiarmid of Barre, VT; his grandchildren Stephanie and Luke and their children Olivia and Liam Garguilo of Standard, VT; Kaitlynn Dolloff and her partner Calvin Grandbois, and Lilac Dolloff and her partner Eric Painter all of Barre, VT; and his siblings Robert, Jack, Joanne, and Joseph McDiarmid all of Wilberham, MA; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and grandchildren by choice.
