EAST MONTPELIER – Wayne Ellsworth Roberts, 80, died at his home on Vermont Route 14 South on Wednesday, August 31, 2016.
Born in St. Johnsbury on July 21, 1936, he was the son of Eugene and Susie (Blodgett) Roberts.
Wayne attended elementary school in Marshfield. He worked on a farm in his early years, until he was employed as a Derrick Operator in numerous granite sheds in the Barre and Montpelier area.
He married Ruth Mary Stone in Marshfield, they later divorced. She died in 2011. In 1961, he married Linda Auberton. After several years living in Marshfield, they moved to Barre Town. She died in 2012. Most recently he lived in East Montpelier.
His memberships included the Canadian Club and the Barre American Legion Post #10. In his spare time, Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering on cars. In his early years he enjoyed snowmobiling. His favorite activities included socializing with his friends and relatives, and he loved to dance with the ladies.
Survivors include his sons Gary Roberts and his wife, Sunee of Cabot, Brian Roberts and his wife, Suzanne of West Danville; his daughters Julie Roberts of Marshfield, and Debbie Duprey and her husband, Bill of Northfield; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; life-long friends Larry and Sandy Holt and many other friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Joyce and Marjory and his brothers Francis, John, Raymond, and one grandson, Adam Roberts.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Eaton Cemetery in Marshfield. There are no calling hours.
