MacAulay
August 1, 1945 – February 25, 2026
KILLINGTON - It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of W. John MacAulay, 80, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Rutland Regional Medical Center. His loved ones were by his side as he passed. He was a loving and caring son, father, companion, brother, and a friend to everyone he met. He had a special skill of making others feel important and included.
Born to Cardeana and Warren MacAulay on August 1, 1945, in Barre, VT. John grew up in East Barre, VT, attending school in Barre and East Barre, VT and graduating from Spaulding High School in 1963. He then moved to CT to begin his career in the automotive industry. He co-owned John’s Service Center in Guilford, CT for many years. He also taught skiing and trained new ski instructors at Powder Ridge Ski area in Middlefield, CT. In 1996 he moved to Killington, VT where he had been skiing for many years. John worked at the Green Mountain National Golf Course in Killington responsible for equipment maintenance until he retired.
John had a passion for skiing and sharing his knowledge with others through his teaching at Killington Ski School for many years. In addition to teaching new skiers, he also taught new ski instructors. He was a long-time member of PSIA-AASI Eastern Division where he achieved the level of Development Team.
After his retirement he enjoyed spending time skiing and playing golf with his longtime partner, Linda, daughter Christina, and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Christina MacAulay of Windham, ME, his companion, Linda Simon of Killington, VT and sisters: Gloria Gora of Middletown, CT, Joyce Gillander of Lower Graniteville, VT, Janet McKnight of Zephyrhills FL, Sharon Snyder of Middletown DE, his sister in law Sandra MacAulay of Barre, as well as 5 nieces and 3 nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Warren MacAulay and Cardena (MacAulay) Hale as well as his brother Michael MacAulay of E. Barre, VT.
The graveside service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours.
