ORANGE – Virginia Ann “Gin” Jacobs, 79, of Spencer Road, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 with her family at her bedside.
Born November 12, 1936 in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of Lawrence W. and Mary A. (Hull) Corey. She attended Calef Junior High School in Johnston, RI, Cranston High School in Cranston, RI and graduated from Joann’s School of Beauty Culture in Providence, RI in 1954.
On February 7, 1957, Virginia married Baynard G. Jacobs at St. Mathews Church in Cranston, RI. Her husband died November 1, 1996.
After their marriage, she and Baynard moved to Vermont and made their home on Main Street in Washington for 33 years before moving to Morrie Road in Washington where they lived until 1996. In 1998, Virginia moved to Spencer Road in Orange.
Virginia was the owner of Home Hair Dressing Salon, and was a nurse’s aide at Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre and a nursing home in South Barre. In 1990, she became a homemaker and cared for her husband until his death.
She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Barre Lodge of Elks #1535 and in her spare time enjoyed spending time visiting with family and friends especially during the holidays, reading romance novels and crafting.
Survivors include her children Joseph Jacobs of Barre, Edward Jacobs and his wife, Denise, of Jacksonville, FL, Maralyn Huntington of Orange, and Michael Jacobs and his wife, Tina, of Orange; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; her brother John (Jack) Corey and his wife, Joyce, of Warwick, RI, and 2 nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, a great-grandson, and her in-laws.
Her graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Washington. There are no calling hours.
