BARRE - Arvazean was born on April 26, 1929, in the small coal mining community of Glomawr, Kentucky and left this world on October 17, 2019, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Arvazean was raised surrounded by the love and nurturing of her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. At age 19, after the devastating death of her beloved grandmother. Tean (as her big brother nicknamed her) moved to Muncie, Indiana to join her mother and stepfather, Susie and Cecil Davis.
Tean worked for a variety of businesses in Muncie, including Toby’s Karmel Korn and Citizens Lunch, a diner owned by her mom. It was while working at the diner that she met Louis, a Vermonter working his way to California. On May 21, 1956, three months after their first date, they eloped.
Ten years later, after the birth of their three daughters, Louis brought Tean and the girls to live in Vermont. They resided briefly in Montpelier and then settled in East Montpelier. Tina would later make her home in the Barre community.
Tina, as she was now known, was primarily a stay at home mom, but she would occasionally work outside the home, enjoying her time at the Tower Restaurant, Ginger’s Hut, and helping out at Lou’s business, Stryker Mobile Homes. While always enjoying the social aspects of her jobs, her greater joys came from summers at their camp on Woodbury Lake, winter vacations in Florida, and visits home to Muncie.
After her divorce from Louis, Tina worked for many years in retail, becoming a familiar friendly face at Zayre, Ames, and Kinney Drugs. After retirement, Tina focused her love and attention on her daughters, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters.
Tina is survived by her daughters Vicki Villa and her husband, Manuel; Therese Ackerman and her husband, Scott; and Tamera Pariseau and her partner, Doug Racine; her grandchildren Amanda Peyerl and her husband, Michael; Jordan Villa; Trina Villa and her partner, Harold Brown; Elliot Ackerman; Margaret Ackerman and her husband, Jamison Micheli; and great-granddaughters Priscilla Villa and Millie Brown. She was predeceased by her mother, stepfather, and brother Robert Turner.
The family would like thank Tina’s caregiver and special friend, Kim Menard; the staff at CVMC ICU, especially the most caring nurse, Raelyn Ward; and the staff of the Pallative and Spiritual Care Units.
A celebration of Tina’s life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative and Spiritual Care Room, c/o Central Vermont Medical Center, 130 Fisher Road, Barre, VT 05641.
