EAST BARRE – Thomas L. Estes, Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully surrounded by family in his own home on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Born on December 31, 1941, in Norwich, VT to Leonard and Evelyn Estes.
In 1959, Tom met the love of his life Sarah Balch. They married on July 11, 1959, following their marriage, they made their home in Hanover Center, NH. They welcomed their daughter Karen and son Tom Jr.
In 1967, they moved to Barre, VT. For 35 years they wintered in Florida, where they had many dear friends.
Thomas founded Estes Trucking and Excavating. Throughout the years, he worked for various granite companies and local contractors.
In earlier years, Tom loved to ride his motorcycle. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and playing horseshoes as well as hunting. Most of all he liked to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His favorite holiday was Christmas; he very much enjoyed decorating.
Survivors include his loving wife Sarah, his daughter Karen Gilman and her partner William Partlow, his son Tom Estes, Jr., and his wife Doreen, his five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, his three sisters Roberta Pike, Polly Gray, and Linda Woodard.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Madelyn and his brother Russell.
The service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hedding Methodist Church, 40 Washington Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
