BARRE - Thelma M. Wark, 89, passed away at home surrounded by her children on Friday, December 6, 2019.
Born in Barre on April 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Guido and Elisa (Benvenuti) Bettini. Thelma graduated from Spaulding High School in 1948, and later from Sheldon Academy School of Cosmetology in Burlington.
On February 11, 1950, she married Roy H. Wark and they began their life together in Barre. They were happily married for thirty-nine years until his death on December 17, 1989.
While her husband operated Wark Brothers Inc., Thelma was happy maintaining their home and raising their three children. She had many activities she enjoyed which included cooking traditional Italian family specialties, like homemade ravioli, tortellini, and pasta. Thelma also enjoyed foraging for mushrooms in undisclosed locations, as all Italians did. Other hobbies included sewing, knitting, and maintaining her beautiful flower gardens.
Thelma was a member of the Hedding Methodist Church, where she spent many hours preparing church sponsored meals and working at the holiday bizarres. She also volunteered her time for many years at the hospital and knit infant hats for Barre Town School to distribute to new parents in the community. She spent her life devoted to her family and caring for her three children.
Survivors include her children Patricia Wark of Fairfax; Michael Wark of Barre; and Cynthia Wark Acebo and her husband, Philip Acebo of Barre and Ronda, Spain; six grandchildren, Jaime Wark and her husband, Shawn Beede, of Essex; Landen Wark-Acebo and his wife, Lauren Fuentes of Scituate, MA; Baleigh Wark-Acebo, of Denver, CO; MaKenzie Wark and her partner Jordan Chatterton of Montpelier; Justin Wark of Boulder, CO; and Delaney Wark Poncilet and her husband, Dewey Poncilet of Boulder, CO; three great-grandchildren, Beau Poncilet, Koda Chatterton, and Elena Fuentes Acebo as well as her sister Vilma Pinchetti of Barre and her brother Thelmo Bettini also of Barre; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Roy.
A private family service will be held celebrating Thelma’s life on Saturday, December 14, 2019 in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
