BARRE – Sylvia D. Miller, 94, of Parkside Terrace passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin with her family at her bedside.
Born August 28, 1924 in Stowe, she was the daughter of George and Pearl (Kellett) Hull. Sylvia attended East Montpelier Elementary School and graduated from Montpelier High School. After graduation she attended the Johnson Normal School Teacher’s College.
In 1941, Sylvia joined the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and was honorably discharged at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia in 1945.
She married George W. Miller, Jr. at Fort Oglethorpe on June 30, 1945. Following their marriage, they travelled and made their home at several military bases until the late 1950’s when they moved to Montpelier, VT eventually settling in Barre in 1965. George passed away in 1989.
Sylvia was a teacher, although she took great pride in her role as a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Monica Catholic Church. In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Lawrence J. Miller, Randall G. Miller, Steven A. Miller and her daughters, Pamela J. (Miller) Martin and Susan L. Miller; her seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren as well as her brothers Kenneth and Donald Hull and her sisters Marlene Haimes and Janet Atkins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson Jeremy T. Miller and her sisters Rita Hull and Barbara (Hull) Brown and her brothers George and Alton.
The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 12:00 noon in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place immediately following the service in Hope Cemetery in Barre.
