MONTPELIER – Steven A. Lavigne, 58, of Elm Street, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre with his family at his bedside.
Born August 10, 1957 in the Barre City Hospital, he was the son of Ernest J. Lavigne Sr. and Jeannette (Grenier) Lavigne. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the Spaulding High School class of 1976.
Following his graduation Steven went to work at Riverton Memorials Inc., the family business, where he spent his entire working career. He was a dedicated and enthusiastic employee who will be missed by his former co-workers.
Steven was an avid competition shooter with both rifle and pistol and also enjoyed archery, working on his beloved ’38 Chevy Coupe, youth baseball, men’s league hockey, motorcycling and snowmobiling.
Some of his memberships included the Barre Gun and Pistol Club and the NRA. He was also a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Montpelier, where he participated in the Adoration Chapel and received communion from the Eucharistic Ministers from St. Monica Church in Barre.
Survivors include his mother, Jeannette Lavigne; former spouse Jill Stroiney of East Calais, one son, Grayson Lavigne; two daughters, Chardonnay Lavigne and her husband, Andrew Lindberg, and Natalie Lavigne; four brothers, Ernest Lavigne Jr. and his wife, Laurie, Philipp Lavigne and his wife, Carol, David Lavigne, all of Berlin, and Tony Lavigne and his girlfriend, Tonya Cicio of Barre; four sisters; Jacqueline Miller and her husband, Arthur, of Riverton, Linda LaPerle and her husband, Raymond, of Barre Town, Debbie Lunt and her husband, Michael, of Barre Town and Christine Knight and her husband, Morris of Huntington as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Ernest J. Lavigne, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the St. Sylvester Cemetery in Barre Town.
Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre on Wednesday June 1, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Steven’s family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Rowan Court who loved him and treated him as a member of their family.
