Steven E. Foster
Barre – Steven E. Foster, 76, a longtime East Barre resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
Born on February 26, 1948, in Barre, he was the son of Harold and Marion (Smedy) Foster. He attended elementary school in Websterville and then went on to graduate from Spaulding High School in 1966.
Steven married Lena Dunn on August 24, 1968, in Graniteville. The two made their home in East Barre, where they raised their three children. They later divorced. Steven then married Patty Clark on October 2, 2022, in Barre.
He began his career in construction for Marty Miller Construction before moving on to work for Roland Lajeunesse. He eventually started Steve Foster Construction in 1972, which he operated for 40 years before his retirement. He also served in the United States Army Reserve, was a Deputy Fish and Game Warden and worked for both the Barre City and Barre Town police Departments.
Some of his hobbies and interests included maple sugaring with his dad and family, diamond dots, fishing, hunting, going to camp, playing cards, dancing, going to flea markets and loved his John Deere Tractor. He was also a longtime member of the Canadian Club and the Moose Club.
Survivors include his wife, Patty Foster of Barre; his children Michael Foster and his partner, Yvette of Barre, Mark Foster and his partner, Kerry of Barre Town and Lori Carmichael Abare and her husband, Peter of Essex; six grandchildren Hunter, Rohr, Logan, Lindsey, Ella, Hayden and Chandler; two great-grandchildren Hudson and Shepherd; his sister Sherry Rodgers and her husband, Gordon of Orange; two brothers-in-law Phillip Ainsworth and his wife, Pat of Florida and Lawrence Dunn and his wife, Mary Ellen of Londonderry, NH; two sisters-in-law Betty Tillotson and her husband, Ronald Putney of Barre town and June West and her husband, Robert of Johnson. He also leaves his ex-wife Lena Foster, his mother-in-law Helen Ainsworth and his nephew Greg Dunn.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his twin brother Stanley Foster and his in-laws Margaret and Raymond Dunn.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Wilson Cemetery in Barre Town. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions in Steven’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
