BARRE CITY – Shirley Ann Quinlan, 82, of Long Street died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin after a lengthy illness.

Born February 9, 1935 in Barre City, she was the daughter of Arthur and Ruth Simmons. She attended Barre City schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1954.

On July 9, 1976 she married Peter I. Quinlan in Fairlee and they made their home in Barre City.

In earlier years, Shirley worked as a reservationist for United Air Lines at several major airports and later owned and operated The Horizon Travel Agency in Barre City as well as being a member of the Barre Rotary Club.

Besides her husband, Peter, survivors include her children Bonita Dugan Johnson and her husband James, and her grandchildren Kiersten and Bailey Lessig; Jennifer Dugan; James Dugan and his wife Marybeth and grandchildren Meghan, Max, and Maddie; and Kenneth Dugan. As well as stepchildren Carol Cross; Brenda Gartman and her husband, Peter; Steven Quinlan and his wife, Claire; and Michael Quinlan; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Also surviving is her sister Patricia Boyle.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother Scott Simmons.

Shirley has directed that there be no services.   Memorial contributions may be made to the National Life Cancer Treatment Center, Patient Fund, Central Vermont Medical Center, PO Box 547, Barre, VT 05641.
