Shirley L. Gauthier

BARRE CITY – Shirley L. Gauthier, 77, of Beech Street, died Monday evening, October 19, 2015 at home with her family at her bedside, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Hanover, NH on October 20, 1937, she was the daughter of Herman and Thelma Lafley and was a graduate of Chelsea High School in 1956.
Shirley had a long career with the Vermont Department of Corrections, retiring after 44 years of service.
She is survived by her loving husband, Wendell N. Gauthier, Sr., of 57 years; 2 sons Wendell, Jr. of Barre City and Scott Gauthier of Manchester, NH, as well as her siblings Edward Lafley, Betty Moore, Jean Hayward, Peggy Anthony and Dottie Arlington and nieces and nephews.
Her hobbies included challenging crossword puzzles, knitting, needlepoint, traveling and enjoying church suppers with her husband.
Shirley’s life will be honored and celebrated with her committal and graveside service on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
