BARRE - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Scott R. Mears, 66, who passed away on July 17, 2026, surrounded by his five children and loved ones. Scott was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, partner, uncle, and friend whose larger-than-life personality, entrepreneurial spirit, and unwavering love for his family left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him.

Born and raised in Vermont, Scott was the son of Richard and Barbara (Dudley) Mears. He attended Barre Town School and graduated from Spaulding High School with the Class of 1978. From an early age, he possessed an incredible work ethic and a drive to build something of his own. He worked making pizzas at Goddard College in his younger years before attending sales school and beginning his career at Shearer Chevrolet. Throughout his life, Scott pursued many ventures and careers, always guided by determination, ambition, and a willingness to take chances.

Scott was a true entrepreneur and founded several successful businesses, including Windshield World, Onsite Windshield, City Lights Limousine, and Mingle Nightclub. He was also a respected auctioneer, a skilled salesman, and enjoyed buying, renovating, and flipping homes. He raised cattle, attended racing school, and was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge. Whether starting a new business or tackling a new project, Scott was a dreamer and, more importantly, a doer.

His accomplishments were many, but nothing compared to the pride he felt in his family. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by his children and grandchildren, whether on his beloved land or relaxing at the lake house. He cherished teaching the next generation the traditions he loved most, passing on his passion for hunting and fishing, sharing stories, playing cards, listening to music, dancing, and bringing laughter wherever he went. Scott had a magnetic personality and was often the life of the party. He was stubborn at times, but that stubbornness came from a deep passion for the people and things he loved.

Scott also enjoyed competitive shooting and proudly earned a four-year rifle championship, another example of the determination and focus that defined much of his life.

He was fortunate to have many lifelong friendships that meant the world to him, including Nelson Lyford, Tommy Stacy, Damian Renzillo, and Harold Putney. His loyalty to his friends was matched only by theirs to him.

Scott was predeceased by his parents Richard and Barbara Mears, his brother Gary Mears, his grandparents, several beloved aunts and uncles, his longtime friend Albert St. Cyr, and other loved ones who welcomed him home.

He is survived by his loving children, Ashley, Brittany, Dillon, Connor, and Carmen, his cherished grandchildren, Calvin, Sebastian. Gus, Valon, Simona, Roman, Royce, Onyx, Juniper and beloved great granddaughter Mataya; his longtime companion of four years, Kris; his sisters, Susan and Shelly; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his generosity, humor, guidance, and unforgettable presence.

Scott’s legacy is one of perseverance, hard work, adventure, and above all, family. He built businesses, pursued big dreams, and embraced every opportunity with determination, but his greatest achievement was the family he loved so deeply. He leaves behind a legacy not only of success, but of laughter, resilience, unforgettable stories, and a love for life that will continue through the generations he inspired.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

A service to honor and celebrate Scott’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, VT. A celebration of life will follow the service from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Canadian Club on VT Route 14 in Barre.

In lieu of flowers, Scott’s children invite guests to come prepared to share a favorite memory or story during the Celebration of Life. His children ask that guests who bring a written copy of memories to leave them with the family as a cherished keepsake for generations to come.
