BARRE – Sara J. Allinson Goodell, 58, of Merchant Street passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at her home due to long-term complications from diabetes.
Born on February 10, 1966, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Eric and Anne Marie (Hayes) Allinson. Sara grew up in Barre, attending St. Monica elementary school and graduating from Spaulding High School in 1984. She then went on to attend Castleton State College, receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1988.
Sara was a teacher at St. Michael’s elementary school in Montpelier for two years before she joined the staff at Spectrum Youth Services and worked with high-risk youths and the Department of Children and Families before retiring due to health reasons.
Despite her many health challenges, she was a giving, kind and generous person. The most important role that she prized in her life was being a loving and caring mother to her daughter, Joy.
Survivors include her daughter Joy Mira Goodell, of Barre, VT; her sisters Linda Krok (Raymond) of MD, Priscilla Moore (Glenn) of East Montpelier, VT and Betsy Phipps (Bradley) of MA; her cousins David Martin of Barre, VT and Scot Martin of FL and her dear friends Tina Dindo of South Barre, VT and Diane Solomon of Barre Town, VT as well as her former husband Gary Goodell.
The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
