CABOT – Ruth Pearl Stuart LaPoint, 85 of Glinka Road passed quietly away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at her home with her beloved cat, Smudge, by her side.
She was cherished and will be missed dearly by her children Gordon LaPoint and significant other, Pauline; Sandy Ducharme and her husband, Richard; Sheila Michaud and her husband, Dale; Teri Lawrence and her husband, Peter Comart; and Gary LaPoint and his wife, Rose; grandchildren, Melanie LaPoint, Christina Ducharme, Stephanie Ducharme, Kristofer Michaud, Nicolas Michaud, Isaac Lawrence, Maija Lawrence, Anya Comart, Chrystal LaPoint, Gary Jr. LaPoint and Jaisy LaPoint and several great grandchildren. In addition, Ruth will be missed by her brother Russell Stuart and his wife, Edna and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed dearly by her neighbors on Glinka Road, who have all supported each other.
Ruth was a kind and gentle soul. She will be remembered with adoration for her unconditional love, compassion and generosity. She always looked for and found the good in people and life in general - touching many lives with her love and kindness and encouraging those around her to find compassion for others.
An avid lover of animals, domestic and wild, she had a special connection with animals and found great joy in her beloved cats over the years. Also, a lover of horses, Ruth never missed a Kentucky Derby race. She bestowed her love of animals on all who knew her.
Ruth also had a knack for gardening, especially perennials and vegetables which she shared generously. She enjoyed reading a great deal as well as spending time with her family and extended family.
She will also be remembered for her amazing cooking. She loved making simple and gourmet dishes for her family and neighbors on Glinka Road.
Ruth worked for 30 years for Washington County Mental Health as a Crisis Intervention Specialist, putting to excellent use her compassion, kindness and non-judgmental ways. Prior to that, she was a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for several years.
Born on September 29, 1933 in Concord, VT she was the daughter of Robert and Pansy (Newman) Stuart. Ruth attended elementary and high school in Concord. After raising her children, she went back to school and graduated from Community College of Vermont with an associate degree.
On February 2, 1949 she married Avery LaPoint. Following their marriage, they made their home in Cabot on a dairy farm. Avery passed away in 1984.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Larry LaPoint, and her siblings Richard Stuart, Robert Stuart, and Rita Howard.
