CALAIS – Rosemary Wheelock, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at her home.
Born March 15, 1929 in Barre, she was the daughter of Lorenzo and Martha (Reffi) Chiodi. She attended local elementary schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1947. After high school, she graduated from the Children’s Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse.
In 1951, Rosemary married Raymond H. Wheelock in Barre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Phoenix City, AL while Raymond served in the military. When Raymond was sent to Korea, Rosemary moved back to Barre. Upon his return from Korea they made their home in Ann Arbor, MI until his retirement when they moved back to Vermont where they built their forever home on the Wheelock land in Calais. Raymond passed away on August 26, 1994.
Rosemary was employed as a nurse at Rutland Hospital, Rutland, VT; the Phoenix City Hospital in Phoenix, AL; Parke Davis in Ann Arbor, MI; and Annex Botsford Beck Home for the Aged in Ann Arbor, MI.
Her memberships included the Barre Congregational Church where she resurrected the Women’s Fellowship, which put on many funeral receptions.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking especially baking desserts, gardening, playing bridge and doing floral arrangements.
Survivors include her nephews Jeff Chiodi and his wife, Susan of Lansing, MI; Bruce Chiodi and his wife, Anne and their children of Monahawkin, NJ; Michael Bisson and his wife, Marilyn of Montreal, Quebec; and Peter Bisson and his wife, Kreighan of Olympia, WA as well as cousins John, Roberta, Diane Nicholls and Jackie Chouinard.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Wheelock; her son David Wheelock; and her brother Larry.
The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Barre Congregational Church, 35 Church Street, Barre. Interment will take place before the service at 9:30 a.m. in the Robinson Cemetery in East Calais. There are no calling hours.
