BARRE – Ronald “Ron” W. Murdock, 86, of Hill Street passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Covenant Hospice at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. His family was at his bedside.

Born November 19, 1932 in Portland, ME, he was the son of Willis and Loretta M. (Tanguay) Murdock. Ron attended Mathewson Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School with the class of 1950.

After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an Aviation Machinist Mate and Survival School Instructor before being discharged as a Chief Petty Officer at Brunswick Naval Air Station in 1972.

On June 21, 1955 he married Ann L. Bowen in St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre. Following their marriage, they travelled making their home in Brunswick, ME; Kingsville, TX; New Iberia, LA; Lakehurst, NJ; and Pensacola, FL before settling in Barre. For the past several years they wintered in Pensacola, FL.

Ron was employed as an Employment and Training Specialist with the Vermont Department of Labor for twenty years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the St. Monica Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #790 and American Legion Post #10 both of Barre and the Sno Bees Snowmobile Club, also of Barre.

In his spare time, he enjoyed travelling in his RV, snowmobiling, camping, history, reading, telling stories, and doing anything mechanical.

Survivors include his wife Ann Murdock of Barre; his children Susan Ronsvalle and her husband, Nelson of Geneva, NY; Steven Murdock and his wife, Merteva of Triangle, VA; Phillip Murdock and his wife, Helen of Essex Jct., VT; James Murdock of Williamstown, VT; and Catherine Stanton and her husband, Robert of Fairfax Station, VA; his grandchildren Scott Sobolewski, Sara Sobolewski, Ryan Murdock, Casey Murdock, Tyler Murdock, Kyle Murdock, Leah Murdock, Joseph Murdock, Justin Murdock, Katelyn Murdock, Cassidy Murdock, Erin Stanton, and James Stanton; and well as his brother Phillip Carroll and his wife, Florence of Rutland, VT.

In addition to his parents and his step-father Walter Carroll, he was predeceased by his sisters Marilyn and Nancy Louise.

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. There are no calling hours. Entombment will take place in the Hooker and Whitcomb Vault to await later interment in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center in the spring.
