PLAINFIELD – Romaine Farnham Andress, 83, of Batchelder Road, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 at his home, he was surrounded by his family at the time.
Born on April 26, 1932 in Hancock, VT, he was the son of John E. and Nathalie (Allen) Andress. He attended schools in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Following his schooling he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he spent 2 years before being honorably discharged.
Upon discharge he married DeEtte Batchelder in Plainfield where they resided. DeEtte predeceased Romaine in 1968.
In March of 1974 he married Edith Hathaway of Barre. They continued living on Batchelder Road in Plainfield.
Romaine spent some years living in New Hampshire and then moved to Plainfield where he made his home on the Batchelder Farm for the remainder of his days as a dedicated and hardworking farmer.
He was an avid hunter. In 2009 Romaine shot, with a muzzle loader, a record buck with a rack that scored 148. He was honored at an awards banquet and received a plaque.
He is survived by his wife Edith Andress, of Plainfield; his daughter, Debra Perry and her husband, Shawn, of Plainfield; four sons, Andy Andress and his wife, Carey, of Syracuse, NY, Edward Andress, Douglas Andress and Steven Andress all of Plainfield. He is also survived by his sisters, Muriel Wallace and Rita Copeland both of Plainfield, Waneta Mayhew and her husband, Russell, of Marshfield, three brothers, Jay Kennett and his wife, Helen, of East Barre, Eugene Kennett, Jerry Kennett and his wife, Barbara, both of Barre, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by three brothers, Theodore, Julian and Clyfton Andress and his step-daughter, Delia Watson, of Maine.
There are no calling hours. A time of gathering and luncheon for family and friends will precede the service at the Twin Valley Senior Center, Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Plainmont Cemetery in East Montpelier.
