Robert F. Svarfvar

BARRE TOWN – Robert F. (Bob) Svarfvar, 75, of Cutler Corner Road, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016, at his home with his loving family at his bedside after a long period of failing health.
Born on August 10, 1941 in Barre, he was the son of Robert A. and Luna A. (Eastman) Svarfvar.
He attended Chelsea Elementary School and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1959. He had served in the Vermont Army National Guard.
On September 18, 1965, he married Shirley McHugh at St. Francis Mother Cabrini Church in East Barre. Following their marriage, they had made their home in in Barre Town.
For most of his life, Bob was self-employed in the firewood and then the logging business. Most will remember him for selling firewood and snowplowing.
He was a hardworking man who was known for speaking his mind. He will forever be remembered for doing things his way.
In earlier years, his interests included hunting, bowling, playing horseshoes and pool. Later, he enjoyed NASCAR and watching baseball and football games.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Shirley; his three daughters, Robin Svarfvar of South Barre, Penny Farrell and her husband, John of Chelsea and Tami Svarfvar and her husband, Paul Giannoni of Barre Town; six grandchildren, Alyssa Barnett and her companion, Tony Matz, Dustin Barnett, Alayna Barnett, Taylor Farwell, J.D. Farwell and Madison Giannoni; his sister, Annie Grant-Raymond and her husband, Bill of Barre Town; and several nieces and a nephew.
He was predeceased by his parents. Also, his beloved dog “Alfie” who was his constant companion.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, followed by a fellowship at the Steak House Restaurant on the Barre-Montpelier Road in Berlin. There are no calling hours.
