Robert E. Sabens

BARRE – Robert E. Sabens, 89, of Sheridan St., passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on March 12, 1927 in Lunenburg, VT he was the son of the late Archie Sr. and Gertrude (Covey) Sabens. Robert graduated from Northfield High School, class of 1945. He married his wife Beth (Stone) Sabens on June 11, 1949 in Montpelier. Together they made their home in Northfield Falls for many years, and most recently Barre.
He served in WWII and the Korean War, and was honorably discharged. Upon his return he worked as an estimator for Rock of Ages, and retired after 37 years. Robert enjoyed volunteering at numerous organizations and was an avid blood donor.
In addition to his wife Beth, Robert is survived by his children; Kim (Marty) Daniels, Kai (Kathleen) Sabens, Kip (Laurie) Sabens, Kellie (Michael) Puestow, and Kyra (Normand) Goodyear; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He was the last surviving child and is predeceased by his brothers; Alan, Delwin, Donald, Niles, and Archie Sabens; and his sisters, Reberta Davis, Dorothy Higley, and Marcia Abaire.
A private graveside service will take place in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center in the Spring.
