SOUTH BARRE – Robert P. Nye, 68, of South Barre Road passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his home with his loving family at his bedside.

Born on October 26, 1948 in Barre, he was the son of Gerald and Florence (Persons) Nye.  Bob attended elementary school in South Barre and Spaulding High School as part of the class of 1966.

On November 4, 1967, he married Glenda Armstrong in Barre, they divorced in 1982.

Bob made his home in South Barre. He began his working career in the sugar woods, sugaring for the Riddell, Hutchins, and Camire Farms.   Next he worked as a cook for Camp Tilawookit, the Wayside Restaurant, and Norwich University before becoming co-owner of the original Jockey Hollow Restaurant/Gus’s Catering, eventually he owned and operated Suzanna’s Restaurant in Berlin from 1984-2013.

He was a member of the Mutuo, Inc., the Masonic Lodge #3, and the Mount Sinai Shrine Temple #3. In his earlier years he played on a men’s hockey league, coached peewee hockey and was instrumental in the organization of the North Barre hockey rink. He also played in cribbage, horseshoe and dart leagues and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and cooking shows on television, gardening, spending time with his furry friend, Ben, the cat, and most of all he loved being with his family at their camp on Lake Memphremagog which he had done since his childhood.

Survivors include his significant other Holly Holden since 1989; his son Don Nye of South Barre and his daughter Jennifer Nye of Jensen Beach, FL; his sister Suzanne Talbot and her husband, Peter of West Lebanon, NH; his sister-in-law Nancy Perry Nye of Raleigh, NC; and his very special friends Henry and Sue LaGue; as well as his extended family, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother William Nye.

Bob will be laid to rest at the family lot in the Hope Cemetery in Barre in the spring at the convenience of the family.
