MONTPELIER - Robert D. Herdling, 82, of Dairy Lane formerly of Winsted, CT passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
Born January 13, 1937 in Winsted, CT, he was the son of Karl and Dorthea (Maher) Herdling.
Robert graduated from The Gilbert School in Winsted, CT and University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT. He was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with Aetna Life and Casualty in Connecticut before relocating to Montpelier. While in Montpelier he worked as a CPA for National Life Insurance Company and Aon, retiring in 2002.
He served in the US Army from 1955-1958. He was a Master Mason for over 36 years and former Treasurer at Aurora Lodge #22 in Montpelier, member of the Scottish Rite and Mt. Sinai Temple #3, he was also a lifetime member of the Winsted Lodge of Elks #844. In his free time, Robert was an automotive enthusiast with an affinity for NASCAR, he was also an avid New England Patriots fan.
Survivors include his two sons Scott R. Herdling and his fiancé, Penny Inglee of Proctor and Robert K. Herdling and his companion, Ashley Julian of Montpelier; his grandchildren Catherine Yakunovich, Camrynn Herdling-Julian, Kynnzlee Herdling-Julian, Robert Herdling, Cheyenne Herdling, Makayla Walters Herdling and Abby Latour; his great- grandchildren Alana and Mila Yakunovich; and his sisters Jean Sparks of Winsted, CT and Beverly Anderson of Torrington, CT; as well as several nieces and nephews and his former wife Virginia “Ginny” Clinton of Torrington, CT.
Robert was predeceased by his parents.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Additional calling hours will be held Friday, November 22, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. in the Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main St, Winsted, CT following with a private interment in the Forest View Cemetery in Winsted, CT.
