CABOT - Robert W. Goodwin, 62, of Jenny Lane, passed suddenly March 28, 2020 in Cabot, VT.

Rob was born December 30, 1957 to Wesley and Judith (Pennypacker) Goodwin in Portland, ME. He grew up in Glastonbury, CT and graduated from UConn.

Rob was a lover of the outdoors spending summers at his grandparent’s camp in NH, fishing and fly fishing, hiking and picking blueberries on Straightback Mountain. He had a single-minded focus to solve any problem and figure out how anything worked. Rob learned at an early age to sail, was an avid bird watcher, runner, cross country and downhill skier, anything to be outside. One of his greatest accomplishments was hiking the Appalachian Trail the summer he graduated from college. A “through-hiker” starting in May at Springer Mountain GA and ending in October at Mt. Katahdin ME, he was joined for the celebration of hiking the last mountain by his father. When his nephews and niece were younger they all spent time at Carol and Rob’s house in Vermont at “Camp Goodwin” where he taught them to fish, tie flies, do woodworking and passed on to them the passion he had about the outdoors.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol (Charamut) Goodwin; his parents, Wes and Judy Goodwin of Granby, CT; brother Jeffrey and Carolyn Goodwin of Bainbridge Island, WA; sister Karen and Brian Lis of Elmwood, CT; mother-in-law Barbara Charamut of Southington, CT; brother-in-law Glenn and his wife, Holly Charamut, sister-in-law Leah Charamut, sister-in-law Beth Florian and her husband, Sean; aunt Ellen Cutts; uncle Jim Pennypacker and is wife, Elise; aunt Gari Waite and his many cousins. He also leaves the joys of his life, nephews Kyle Charamut, Daniel and Iliana Lis, Jonathan and Michaela Lis, Casey Ledbetter, Brandon Ledbetter and Austin Florian; nieces Erika Florian and Jenny Lynn and Andy Carey; great-niece Katie Carey, great nephews Aidan and Ryan Carey. He was also blessed last year to greet great-nephew Isaac Lis and great-niece Amelia Lis.

He is predeceased by grandparents James “Pete” and Doris Pennypacker and Ruth Anderson, father-in-law and fishing buddy Fred Charamut and uncle Norman Cutts.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations may be made in his name to a charity of your choice or to the Appalachian Mountain Club, 10 City Square, Boston, MA 02129 or via their website www.outdoors.org/honor-memorial-gift .
