RANDOLPH – Robert Melvin Chase, 59, of Randolph Avenue passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

Born on October 30, 1965, in Dover, New Hampshire, he was the son of Melvin W. and Marilyn M. (Martin) Chase. He attended Randolph Grade School and graduated from Randolph Union High School, both in Randolph, Vermont. After graduation, he studied at Western Carolina University (where he went on a baseball scholarship) and Champlain College.

He worked in the quality control division of Nolato GW in Bethel, VT where he had been employed since 2017. Previous employers were Vermont Castings and Ethan Allen Furniture.

Robert was a member of the First Congregational Church in Randolph.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching baseball, golf, and football. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Detroit Lions’ fan. He loved the outdoors, especially spending time fishing and hunting. He played league golf and won the Vermont Left-Handed Tournament. He played men’s softball. In his youth, he was a member of a bowling league and played in several tournaments. He was a left-handed pitcher playing Little League, Babe Ruth, Legion and High School baseball, leading his teams to many tournament championships.

Survivors include his sisters Patricia (Robert) Blanchard of Amarillo, TX; Karen (Brent) Sleeper of Barre, VT; and Sally (Scott) Selcke of Woodstock, IL; and his brother Steven (Jane) Chase of Bethel, VT; his aunt Judie McGary of Cody, WY; his stepmother Mary Etta Chase,  as well as five nephews (Dillon & Cody Sleeper, Jessie & Henry Chase & Christopher Rader), four nieces (Stephanie Harris, Allison Rosenbach, Caitlin Schmitt & Erin Rader), and four cousins (Suzanne Palmer, Sean McGary, Anna Blackburn and Jonathan Martin).

In addition to his parents Marilyn and Melvin Chase, he was predeceased by his guardians Loraine and Francis Chase, his sister Katherine Chase, his grandparents Clara and Clayton Martin and Lucie and Everett Chase, his uncle and aunt Clifton & Dorothy Martin, his uncle Dennis McGary, and his niece Kelly Rader.

The graveside service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the Plain-mont Cemetery in East Montpelier followed by a gathering to share stories at his sister’s house at 53 Osborne Road, Barre, VT. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or a local youth sports program.
