BARRE – Richard A. Bell, 70, a longtime Barre resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. His loving Family was with him at his bedside.
Born on August 7, 1947, in Barre City, he was the son of Chester and Ethel (Queor) Bell. He attended elementary school in Barre and also Spaulding High School.
Following his schooling, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with distinction before being honorably discharged in 1965.
On June 29, 1968 he married the love of his life, Stephanie Billado, in the Hedding Methodist Church in Barre. The two made their home in the Barre area for the remainder of their years and raised their two wonderful boys.
After serving in the Navy, Richard went to work for the Barre Montpelier Railroad and then for Chouinard’s Construction. After years of working in those fields he went into the food services trade. He then worked for multiple restaurants, including Shoney’s, Applebee’s, Shaun and Nora’s and Julio’s.
Throughout his life, Richard had many hobbies and interests. The most important of those included hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and dirt track racing, collecting baseball cards, watching hockey and spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was also a member of the Barre American Legion Post #10.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Stephanie Bell, of Barre; two sons, Stephen Bell and his wife, Christina, of Roxbury and Lee Bell and his wife, Sharon, of Barre as well as twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Douglas Bell of Barre; his aunt, Pauline Pombar, of Northfield and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in the Roxbury Cemetery, on Route 12A in Roxbury, at 2:00 p.m. There are no calling hours.
