Raymond N. Stroutsos

MONTPELIER – Raymond N. Stroutsos, 89, of College Street passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born December 21, 1929 in Barre City, he was the son of Nicholas and Irene (Cardini) Stroutsos. From the time of his childhood, he worked closely beside his father in the family’s Main Street shoeshine parlor.

He attended Mathewson Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1947. After high school, he attended Champlain Business College.

Raymond joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served as an Airborne Ranger until he was honorably discharged in 1953.

Later that year, he married Gloria Saliba. Together they had three children and lived in both Vermont and Michigan. They later divorced.

In 1995, he married Lori Rivers in Boston, MA. Following their marriage and the birth of their only son, they made their home in Montpelier.

Over his long and rewarding career, Raymond was an Owner and Vice President of Cook, Watkins and Patch in Barre; the owner of Bilodeau – Barre Granite Brokers; and until his retirement, the Director of Sales and Marketing at Rock of Ages.

His memberships included the Mutuo, Inc., Barre Lodge of Elks #1535, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1391. After his retirement, he served on the Kellogg Hubbard Library Board, the St. Michaels Elementary School Board as well as the board of Easter Seals Vermont.

A lifelong lover of reading and history, Raymond also enjoyed playing golf, racquetball, cards, and spending time at his camp on Woodbury Lake. He will be remembered for his love of people, his sense of humor, generosity and kindness.

Survivors include his wife, Lori Rivers of Montpelier, VT; his children Gary Stroutsos of Seattle, WA; Cathy Stroutsos of Colchester, VT; Lori Grant of Randolph, VT; and Nicholas Stroutsos of Boston, MA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nephews; and his sister Sylvia Orr of Medford, OR.

A graveside service to celebrate and honor his life will be held at the convenience of his family in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.   There are no calling hours.
