ORANGE – Raymond E. “Ray” Spencer, 57, of Cyr Road, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at his home.
Born on September 2, 1957 in Orange, he was the son of Franklin Fillmore and Mildred Abbie (Newton) Spencer. He attended school in Orange.
Ray had made his home in Orange with his longtime companion, Diane Burnor Gaylord. She predeceased him.
On July 25, 1986, Ray married Susan Morse in Chelsea. Following their marriage, they lived in Washington. They were recently divorced.
For over thirty years, Ray worked for Central Vermont Community Action in the insulation and weatherization program and had been a supervisor. Later, he had worked for Vermont Casting in Randolph, Harvest Equipment in Montpelier, and for Sodexo in maintenance at Norwich University in Northfield.
Ray was a former member of the Canadian Club in Barre. He enjoyed time spent with his family, hunting, fishing, four wheeling, motorcycling, and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his children, Laurie Spencer-Chapin and her husband, Steven of Berlin, Michael Murphy of Washington, and Kristine Murphy and soon to be son-in-law, Jamie Laquerre of East Montpelier; five grandchildren, Steven Chapin Jr., Travis Chapin, Camryn Murphy, Melinda Laquerre, and Jesse Laquerre; a great-grandson, Tucker Chapin; two sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Dunn and her husband, Norman “Pete” of West Topsham and Nancy Blanchard and her husband, Kenneth of Newport, NH; two brothers, Franklin Spencer and Frederick “Johnny” Spencer, both of Orange; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Winnie Weir and brothers, Fillmore “Pinky” Spencer and George Spencer.
His funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Wilson Cemetery in Websterville.
