Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
BARRE- It is with profound sadness that the family of Raymond Jennett announces his passing on March 27, 2026.
Raymond was born on September 27, 1945, in Montpelier, VT to Charles and Gladys (Duprey) Jennett. Raymond was raised on King Street in Northfield, VT where he attended Northfield Elementary School and graduated from Northfield High School Class of 1964. Raymond is a graduate of Champlain College as well as New Hampshire College in 1972 with a degree in accounting. Raymond’s occupation as a Certified Public Accountant was his passion. In 2015, Raymond retired from Mudgett, Jennett and Krough-Wisner in Montpelier, VT where he remains a co-owner.
Raymond served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970. He served two tours in Vietnam as a radar man on the USS Constellation CVA 64 and received a letter of commendation for efficiency in operations while aboard the USS Marathon (PG89), and Sergeant Det 2 50th MP Company Army National Guard and with honorable discharge in 1977 and 1979 Det 2 50th Finance.
On December 21, 1974, Raymond married Charlene Merrill, daughter of Doreen and Dorian Merrill, formerly of Barre. They were married at St Monica’s Parish. Raymond and Charlene resided in Barre and Barre Town.
Some of his memberships include Saint Monica's Church, Barre Senior Citizens, Barre Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 10, Barre Rotary, Central Vermont Rotary (past President), Jaycees, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Accountants and Financial Professionals in Business.
Raymond enjoyed many deer seasons spent with his son, Justin, by his side, including a much-enjoyed hunter’s breakfast, and of course, having success in their efforts. The last year Ray was physically able to hunt he had returned with son and deer in tow. Other interests included fishing (ice and stream), and of course his lifelong love of cards that he felt came from his mom. Raymond enjoyed poker and Texas hold ‘em with family and friends as well as his weekly game with a group of buddies. Needless to say, “a lot of poker,” including seeing a sunrise at Joe’s Pond with his buddy Bob Comstock and group during one of our yearly vacations. He had many happy times in Montreal, gambling with friends or family in Las Vegas, as well as Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, and the casino in New Hampshire near his daughter Jenny. Raymond and Charlene also enjoyed bus trips to the boardwalk in New Jersey, where Raymond enjoyed gambling and Charlene enjoyed exploring the boardwalk, the ocean, and seagulls, and mostly spending time with Raymond. Raymond’s big win occurred in 2002 at Foxwoods. He threw a quarter in the slot machine on his way out the door and hit big on a progressive and of course, like a true accountant, he had taxes taken out on site. He very much enjoyed the precious framed keepsake his daughter Justina put together as a gift.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Charlene Jennett, of Barre Town, VT; His daughter Justina Jennett (Shaun Chevalier) and daughter Lucy Chevalier of Swanton, VT; His daughter Jennifer Edwards (Mark Edwards) and children Jayda Jewett and Dylan Jewett of Concord, NH; His son Justin Jennett (Lynnea Timpone) and her children of Barre Town, VT; His brother David Jennett (Mary Jennett) of Northfield, VT and daughter Ellen Jennett Matheson (Kevin Matheson) of Northfield, VT and their children Scott and Rachel; Brother-in-laws Kenneth Merrill of Northfield, VT and Charles Merrill of Barre, VT.
He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Gladys (Duprey) Jennett and nephew Jay Jennett of Northfield, VT.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11am at Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home at 7 Academy Street in Barre, VT. A celebration of Raymond’s life will immediately follow the service at the American Legion in Barre, VT. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the American Legion Post 10, at 320 N Main Street, Barre, VT 05641.
