BARRE TOWN – Raymond B. Batchelder, 83, of Ridgewood Terrace passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at his home with his family by his side.
Born January 23, 1936 in Plainfield, he was the son of Raymond E. and Lucy (Goodrich) Batchelder.
Raymond attended schools in Plainfield and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1956. Following graduation, he was employed at Consolidated Memorials, Inc., In Barre. In 1956, Raymond joined the National Guard serving until 1958 when he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served for a year in Korea before being honorably discharged as a SR-4 Specialist in 1960. Raymond then returned to work at Consolidated Memorials, Inc., in 1960 and retired as a general manager in 1997.
In 1961 Raymond married Judith Cerutti of Plainfield. They later divorced. In 1980 he married Francese M. Villa and they made their home in Barre Town.
Raymond was a life-long hunter and fisherman and spent many enjoyable years hunting and fishing in the local area. He was a 32 nd Degree of the Scottish Rite Mason, member of the Wyoming Lodge #80 F&AM of Plainfield for over fifty years. Raymond was also a member of the Mt. Sinai Shriners #3 of Montpelier, the Barre Rifle and Pistol Club, as well as a life member of the Canadian Club of Barre.
Survivors include his wife Francese Batchelder of Barre Town; his son Scott Raymond Batchelder and his wife, Lori of Plainfield; his daughter Allison Rae Domey and her husband, John of Plainfield; his step-daughter Mary-Ellen Fisher and her husband, Ryan of Rutland; four grandchildren, Megan Kreis and her husband, Ryan of Plainfield; Michael Domey and his fiancée Jennifer Weisenburger of South Carolina; Mara Batchelder and Alicia Batchelder, both of Plainfield; one great-grandson Waylon Kreis; his brother David Batchelder and his wife, Sandra of Barre Town as well as a nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Emily (Batchelder) Maxfield, his brother Bertrand Batchelder and his nephew Kent Batchelder.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Plain-Mont Cemetery in East Montpelier. Per his wishes there are no calling hours.
