WEBSTERVILLE- Randolph Austin Gonyaw Sr, 87, passed peacefully away in the comfort of his family on Monday, October 21, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
He was born at home on November 25, 1931, the son of Adolphus and Gertrude Gonyaw on Gonyaw Road in Greensboro.
Randolph attended school in Greensboro Bend, leaving elementary school at an early age to work on various dairy farms in the area. He later began his working career in the granite industry at the Wells-Lamson Quarry, later known as Rock of Ages, as a "derrick man" running the hoist. Randolph retired after nearly 35 years in the granite industry.
On October 20, 1952, Randolph married Joyce Ayers in Stowe. They had three children Randolph Jr, Ronald, and Dennis. They later divorced. Randolph later met his life-time companion, Barbara Farrington, with whom he shared the remainder of his life.
Randolph enjoyed dancing to country music, snowmobiling in his earlier years, hunting, fishing and most of all "telling stories.” He especially enjoyed reminiscing with old and creating new friends.
Survivors include his sons Randolph Jr., of South Barre; Ronald (Sarah) of Washington; and Dennis (Juli) of Milo, Maine; as well as grandchildren Randolph III, Kasey, Ashley, and James; two great-grandchildren Ryan and James Jr.; and his sister Evangeline (Honey) Thompson as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Roger Gonway and his sister Katherine Bean.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Durant Cemetery in Lower Cabot. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre is in charge of the arrangements.
