ORANGE - Philip Emery Collins, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 12, 2015, after an allergic reaction to a bee sting.
Philip was born December 12, 1961 in Barre to Albert P. Collins, Jr. and Virginia E. (Emery) Collins. He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1979, and later attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA. On February 2, 1980, he married Margaret Renfrew of Orange. They had two sons, Christopher of Orange and Chad of Barre.
A printer by trade, Phil worked at Northlight Studio Press, Leahy Press, and L. Brown and Sons Printing. For a time, he operated his own business, Central Vermont Die-cutting, in Barre Town. He most recently resided with his parents on Emery Road in Orange, where he helped maintain the Collins residence and assisted in the agricultural enterprises of their Mountain Meadow Farm.
The outdoors was Phil’s life. Along with helping his family, friends, and neighbors, Phil also loved to cook for countless family gatherings. He was an avid reader and NASCAR fan who shared his faith in God with others.
Philip is survived by his mother, Virginia; his former wife, Margaret; and his sons, Christopher and Chad, and Chad’s wife, Jennifer. He had seven grandchildren: Kendra, Marcus, Trevor, Christopher, Connor, Cassidy, and Keegan. He is also survived by five siblings: Gloria Doran of Lawrenceville, GA, Ron (and Lea) of Williamstown, Paul (and Becky) of Orange, Linda of Barre, and Peter of Philadelphia, PA. As well as his family, he will be missed by his close friends, Trish, Mike, and Kerry.
Calling hours will be on Friday, October 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. A memorial service will be held at the Washington Baptist Church, VT Route 110, Washington on Saturday, October 24, at 11:30 AM.
