BARRE CITY – Percy Almon Labor, Sr., 86, a long-time resident of Washington Street died Wednesday night June 14, 2017 at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center. His family had been at his bedside.
Son of Arthur and Anna (Priest) Labor, he was born October 13, 1930 in Lyndon Center.
He attended Lyndon Institute in Lyndonville, VT and completed his GED at Spaulding High School in 1971.
On August 22, 1948, he married Theresa Dubuc in Lyndon. Following their marriage they lived in Lyndonville, coming to Barre City in 1949 where they have since resided.
After moving to Barre, Percy was first employed in the Barre City Street Department and later as a granite sawyer at the former Rouleau Granite Company. In 1971, he joined the Sales Department of the John Hancock Insurance Company in their Barre office, retiring in 1993.
His special interests were hunting from his camp in Walden and maintaining his home and gardens at his Washington Street home and greatly loving all his family.
Percy’s memberships included the Crossroads Christian Church in East Montpelier, and the Elks Lodge #1535, the Canadian Club and the Moose Club, all of Barre.
Besides his wife Theresa, at home, he is survived by two daughters; Kathleen Fassett of Williamstown and Melanie Duprey and her husband Douglas of Marshfield and son Percy Labor, Jr and his wife Shirley of Barre Town; six grandchildren, Eric Labor; Christopher and Kevin Dowling; and Iain, Brittini-Ann and Seth Duprey and 2 great-grandchildren, Killian Dowling and Ayden Newton and his special nephew Arthur Labor.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Eleanor Newton and two brothers, Howard Labor and Gordon Labor who was killed in World War II.
On Friday June 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., Percy’s life will be honored and celebrated in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in Barre Town.
Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
