BARRE – Peggy Ann Atkins, 77, of Maple Avenue passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington.

Born on June 1, 1947, in Barre, she was the daughter of Wilfred and Virginia (Rivers) Hebert. She attended Holy Ghost Elementary School and obtained her GED. Peggy was married to Alan Atkins, they divorced in 1972.

She worked in the licensing division of the Vermont Secretary of State’s office until her retirement in 2007.

Peggy was a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville and later St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. In her spare time, she enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and watching her soaps and Mass on television. She could be found sitting on her front porch in her “Minnie Pearl” hat feeding the squirrels and keeping an eye on the neighborhood.

Survivors include her daughters Lori Couture and Debbie Williams both of Barre; her grandchildren Alora, Jessica, Megan, Emma, Lexi, and Travis; her great-grandchildren Janessa, Bryson, Camren, Sophia, Lydia, Oliver, Amelia, and Vera; her brother Ronnie Hebert of New Hampshire, and her sisters Gloria Gunn and her husband of New Hampshire, Cynthia Hebert of Georgia, Gail Dexter and her husband and Pamela Fletcher and her husband all of Barre, VT as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Linda Hebert, Nancy Springer, Susan Hebert, Shirley Luther, and Mary Stone.

The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at the convenience of her family.
