BARRE – Pearl Audrey (Manning) Brooks, 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield.
Born on November 23, 1932 in Duxbury, she was the daughter of Wilbert J. Manning and Avis P. Perry.
Pearl attended Spaulding High School and graduated in 1950. She then attended the Barre City Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1953.
She married James Brooks on November 13, 1954 in St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Barre, although they eventually bought a place in St. Petersburg, FL and spent their winters there. He passed away in August 2014.
Pearl worked at the Barre City Hospital and the Central Vermont Hospital as a registered nurse. She also worked at Brooks Granite Company.
In her spare time, Pearl spent lots of time with family and friends at her Joe’s Pond camp. We will all remember the great times spent there. She was also very active in square dancing, hunting and fishing as well as an avid bowler and bingo player.
Pearl was a loving and caring mother, nana, aunt and sister and will be missed by all that came in touch with her. She had a way of making everyone smile.
Survivors include her children, David Brooks of Graniteville; Jodi Metivier of Barre; and Francis (Bonnie) Brooks of Tampa, FL; grandchildren Francis Brooks II, Crystal Brooks, Samantha Metivier, Jennifer and Savannah Brooks; great-grandchildren Bella and Callie Brooks; brother Perry (Marcia) Manning of Pensacola, FL; sister Durinda (Ron) Larivee of St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law Janice Manning of East Barre; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Douglas Manning.
A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held later in the spring.
