BARTON - Paul Stuart Denton, 70, former long-time Barre resident died unexpectedly on Monday, December 5, 2016, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, after a sudden illness, surrounded by his family.

Born October 31, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the eldest son of the late Paul Joseph and Kathleen Agnes (Duggan) Denton of Rye, NY.

Paul started his early education in Hicksville, Long Island, NY and continued in White Plains, NY, graduating from Arch Bishop Stepinac High School in 1964.

He went on to graduate from St. Michael’s College in Winooski with a degree in Literature and a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in Boston, MA in 1970. After graduating from Harvard, Paul joined the United States Air Force serving as a second Lieutenant in the Philippines and in Austin, TX.

Paul always had an affinity for numbers, a strong work ethic and a flare for business. He was employed at several companies over the years, using his finance skills to manage and support local businesses to profit and thrive. Though “retired”, Paul continued to work, his last place of employment was with the St. Johnsbury Paper Company in St. Johnsbury. In the 1980’s, Paul served as Chairman of the local school board in Barre.

He had a fierce loyalty for his family and for what was “right” and brought his own father to live with him on Crystal Lake in Barton until his death in August 2015.

Survivors include his daughters, Bonnie Parry and her partner, Michael Grandbois, Valerie DuBois and Amanda Denton, all of Barre; and the lights of his life, his 5 grandsons, Casey DuBois, Stephen DuBois, Tucker DuBois, Stuart Parry and Wyatt Parry; his sisters, Kathleen Kammerman of Portland, ME, Christine Denton of Tuckahoe, NY and Elizabeth Worsham of Dunedin, FL; and his brother, Stephen Denton, of New Bedford, MA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends whose lives he touched over the years and that he cherished, though the miles separated them. Also, he will be missed dearly by his “magnificent cats” Bert and Ernie.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the spring.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Fletcher Allen Health Care for their compassion and dedication in the care of our father.
