Pamela J. Smith

BARRE - Pamela Jennie Smith, 56, passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Born on August 4, 1968, in Bristol, Connecticut, Pamela was the daughter of the late Bernard and Julia Carpenter.

She was raised in Marshfield, Vermont, and graduated from Twinfield High School in 1987.Pamela was a devoted mother, grandmother, and caregiver whose compassion touched everyone who knew her.

In 1988 Pamela married Dana Smith Sr. but later divorced in 2001. She worked for many years as a Licensed Nursing Assistant, offering care and comfort to patients in several nursing facilities throughout Vermont. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Pamela, had a deep love for the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and Boston Celtics. She played basketball during her high school years and carried that same energy and passion throughout her life. Pamela was happiest when surrounded by family.

She especially treasured cookouts, holidays, and simple moments with her loved ones. Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother to Kamryn and Devon, with whom she loved putting on puppet shows and sharing laughter. Her loyal dog, Buddy, was always by her side.

Pamela was known for her delicious home-cooked meals—especially her mac and cheese and lasagna, which became family favorites. She was deeply proud of her daughters and loved visiting April in Boston. She also cherished shopping trips and dining out with Ashley, creating lasting memories through these simple joys.

She is survived by her daughters Ashley (Josh) McElroy of Barre, VT, and April Smith of Everett, MA; her grandsons Kamryn and Devon McElroy; her siblings—including a brother and two sisters—and many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

Pamela was predeceased by her parents Bernard and Julia Carpenter; her daughter Kami, her son Dana Jr. and her sisters Jackie Beede and Jeannie Carpenter.
