WEST TOPSHAM – Norman Maurice “Pete” Dunn, 79, of US Route 302, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction.

Born on October 14, 1937 in Hancock, he was the son of Herman and Jennie (Andrews) Dunn. He attended school in Hancock.

In 1957, Pete enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served with the Marine Aircraft Group 11 and was honorably discharged in 1960.

On March 17, 1961, Pete Married Dorothy Ann Spencer in Orange. Following their marriage, they made their home in Orange and East Orange before moving to West Topsham.

Pete had worked as a quarry man for the Wells Lamson Granite Company and as a truck driver for the Rock of Ages Granite Company. For many years, he had worked in construction and truck driving, owning his own construction business and Dunn’s Transportation. He also ran equipment in the logging business.

He enjoyed the outdoors, brook fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, and camping. He enjoyed driving racecars at Thunder Road and Bear Ridge and later on watching as a fan. Spending time with his family and friends were special to him.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dunn of West Topsham; his daughters, Debbie Shepard and her husband, Bob of East Orange and Brenda Bruleigh and her husband, Tony of Waits River; his son, Randy Dunn and his wife, Annette of West Topsham; seven grandchildren, Tracie and her husband, Adam Longto, Jessica Placey and her husband, Thomas, Ryan Bruleigh, Amanda Dunn and her fiancé, Trevor Cote, Lindsey Shepard and her fiancé, Garett Brusseau, Scott Dunn and Craig Shepard and his wife, Denise; nine great-grandchildren, Abby, Ava, Sierra, Jessica, Jordan, Josh, Alexis, Kenzie and Antonio; his brother, Larry Dunn of Williamstown; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Marlene West and Madelean Conley; and brothers, Roland Dunn and Crawford Dunn.

Pete’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Christopher Nice and the nurses and doctors with hospice care at the VA Hospital for the comforting and professional care they gave to Pete. Also, to his sister-in-law, Nancy Blanchard for all the help and kindness she gave to Pete and his family.

The memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held in the East Orange Church on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. The burial will take place in the spring in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. There are no calling hours.
