East Barre

EAST BARRE – Nancy McGinley, 77, a long time East Barre Resident, passed on January 2, 2019. She was the daughter of Dr. Lester and Genevieve (Jones) Judd. She graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1960, attended the University of Connecticut and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Vermont in 1964.

On May 30, 1964, Nancy married Paul McGinley, in Enosburg Falls. They made their home for a brief time in Danbury, Connecticut, before moving to Barre. Since 1968 they lived in East Barre.

Nancy worked as a medical technologist at the former Barre City Hospital and the former Perry Medical Clinic in Barre. In 1972, she started work at Barre Town Elementary School as an instructional assistant and made a difference in the lives of many students. She moved on to a position as secretary to the principal’s office and then in the superintendent’s office. In 1993, she became the administrative assistant to the Superintendent of the Montpelier Public Schools. She retired in 2005. Nancy thoroughly enjoyed working in both school systems.

Nancy was a long-time member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd of Barre. For many years she organized chicken pie and baked bean suppers and other fundraisers. She also served on the Vestry. She was also active in the Central Vermont Parkinson’s Support Group and was a member of the East Barre Home Dem.

Nancy’s interests were many and varied. She enjoyed family gatherings, painting with water colors, music and dancing with her husband, poetry, reading, watching the Boston Red Sox and making chicken pie for as many as 40 people gathered at their home. She had a deep appreciation of the beauty of nature and took pleasure in gardening. Along with her husband, she enjoyed reviving old houses, refinishing furniture, auctions and antiques. She enjoyed living near her granddaughters.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Paul, son, Michael and wife Amy; granddaughter Leah, her companion Shane; and great-granddaughter Avelyn; granddaughter Amber; sister Betsy and her companion David; sister Sally and her husband David; sisters-in-law Helen; Rosemary and her husband David; Kathleen and her husband Dan and Ann; brother-in-law, Kevin and his wife Pamela; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, grandson Caleb, and brothers-in-laws Dick, John and Rick.

The family thanks Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice and Andrea and Jacob from TLHC for their incredible care over the past six months.
