NEW YORK - Nancy A. Hutchins, 78, a longtime resident of South Barre, Vermont, died Sunday, October 20, 2024, after a brief illness, at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, Cortland, NY, surrounded by her family.
Born June 25, 1946, in Barre, she was one of three children born to Bernard Isaac and Ada Mae (Farnham) Peterson. As a child she attended Mathewson school, St. Monica school and the old Spaulding High School (Washington Street) and loved to reminisce how her class marched from the “Old” Spaulding High School to the “New” Spaulding High School (Ayers Street) in the Spring of 1965.
After graduating from Spaulding High School in 1965, she married Richard G. Hutchins, in the Fall, with whom she shared three children with. They later divorced.
She spent most of her career working many years for Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice as a CNA. She really enjoyed working with her patients. Nancy’s greatest joy was the love she provided for her family. Her home was a revolving door to her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, time at Lake Eligo and sitting around a relaxing fire with family and friends. She loved discussing politics and was a member of the National Republican Party. Nancy had a strong faith and love for Jesus. She formally attended Crossroads Christian Church (Montpelier). For the last several years she attended New Life Assembly church (Barre). While very recently staying with her daughter in Cincinnatus, New York, she attended Berean Bible Church.
Survivors include her sons Richard B. Hutchins and wife, Tammy of South Barre, VT; Scott W. Hutchins of Graniteville, VT; and her daughter Beth A. (Hutchins) Davis and husband, Blake of Cincinnatus, NY; seven grandchildren Jennifer Hutchins, Richard A. Hutchins and wife Brooke, Brooklyn Hutchins, Michael Davis, Alessia Davis, Natalie Davis and Isabella Davis; two great-grandchildren Michael Hutchins and Allison Hutchins; and her sister Ann Randall and husband Francis as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Ronald Peterson and her grandson Kyle Davis.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the Canadian Club, 414 East Montpelier Road, Barre. A graveside service will take place in the St. Sylvester Cemetery in Barre Town in the spring. There are no calling hours.
