ORANGE – Nancy H. Beard, 86, of Beard Road passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
Born September 18, 1930 in Iowa City, IA, she was the daughter of Andrew and Ruth E. (Brownson) Holt.
Nancy attended elementary school in Iowa City, before her family moved to Massachusetts where she graduated from Worcester High School. After graduation she enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1952.
While serving in the Army, she married Arthur C. Wolford. They had one son, Robert L. Wolford. They later divorced. She lived in California before moving to Vermont. In the mid 1960’s, she met Carroll Beard and they were married June 22, 1968. In 1970, they adopted a newborn daughter, Julie. They first made their home in Proctor before moving to Rutland. After they retired, they moved to their current residence in Orange.
Nancy was employed by the Burlington Police Department as a meter maid for a few years before becoming a full-time homemaker.
She was a member of the Grace Congregational Church in Rutland.
Nancy was fascinated by antiques and other collectibles, especially dolls and Hummel figurines. She was an excellent housekeeper and had a knack for displaying her collectibles.
Survivors include her husband Carroll Beard of Orange; her son Robert L. Wolford of Royalton; her daughter Julie Reynolds and her husband, Jeffrey of Knoxville, TN; her grandson Adam Wolford and his sons Cooper, Silas and Dexter; grandchildren Nicholas, Olivia, Elizabeth and Lauren Reynolds; her sister Barbara Greene of Lafayette, IN; her sister-in-law Elsie Beard of Orange; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Winfield Holt, and her sister Betty Browning.
The service to honor and celebrate Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Christ Community Alliance Church in Orange. Inurnment will be in the Orange Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
