MONTPELIER - Muriel S. Hudson (94) passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the Gary Residence in Montpelier.
Born on March 30, 1932, in Woodbury, she was the daughter of Ray and Ivis (Hart) Shatney. She grew up in Woodbury where she attended elementary school and later graduated from Plainfield High School in 1950.
On September 29, 1950, she married James William Hudson, Jr., they raised three children together settling in East Calais.
Muriel worked for 15 years at National Life Insurance Co. and completed her career at the National Life Credit Union in Montpelier, where she served first as a loan officer and later as an account manager.
She was an active member of the Calais-Woodbury United Church in East Calais, where she taught Sunday School for eight years, and participated in the Women’s Club. A founding member and treasurer of the Calais Recreation Association, Muriel was deeply involved in her community and especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings and spending time with friends.
Survivors include her three children Rickie Hudson, his wife Joan of Brandon, her daughter Michele Bailey, her husband Kevin of East Calais, her son Chris Hudson, his wife Melody of Myrtle Beach, SC. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Bret, his wife Kristina, Chase, and Caiden Hudson. And one great granddaughter, Mia Pearl. Along with her parents she was predeceased by her husband James William Hudson, and her brother Raymond Shatney. A service to honor and celebrate Muriel’s life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. A burial will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.
