Monique G. Cartier, 81, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, in Barre, Vermont, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on February 11, 1945, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Monique was the daughter of Arthur and Cecile (Bisson) Cote. She grew up in Barre, Vermont, and graduated from St. Marion's.

In her early years, Monique worked as a nurse's aide before her entrepreneurial spirit led her to own both The Uniform Shop and The Good Shepherd Bookstore. She later began a career with Bombardier, where she served as a Quality Control Supervisor. Her dedication and leadership took her to Plattsburgh, New York, where she continued with the company until her retirement in 2006. Following retirement, having had enough of the cold, she relocated to Florida with Richard to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather. They loved their new community and made many cherished friendships over the years.

Monique was a lifelong seeker with an open heart and an inquisitive mind. Throughout her life she explored many faith traditions, from her Catholic upbringing to Christian churches and the teachings of Buddhism, always searching for a deeper understanding of spirituality and the journey each of us walks. Rather than settling on a single destination, she found peace, comfort and happiness in following her own spiritual path.

A gifted and creative soul, Monique embraced retirement as an opportunity to further explore her artistic passions. Her love of photography led to the sale of several of her works, and she later discovered a passion for painting, eventually sharing her talents by teaching painting classes within her community. She also instructed yoga, encouraging others to find balance, peace, and wellness. She had a wonderful, sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh with family and friends.

Nature brought Monique endless joy. She loved watching the birds and the wildlife, spending time on the waters of Lake Champlain in Vermont and the St. Johns River in Florida and simply appreciating the beauty of the natural world alongside those she loved.

Monique is survived by her partner, Richard Trombley of Florida; her sons, Marcus Aylward and his wife, Cari, and Shannon Aylward and his wife, Linda; nine cherished grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild expected soon; her sister, Fern, and Fern's daughter of Plattsburgh, New York; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Cecile Cote, and by her beloved daughter, Michele, whom her family finds comfort that they are joyfully embracing once again.

Those who knew our mom won't be surprised that she didn't want to have calling hours or funeral service, so we are honoring that for her. Her family will gather privately at a later date to celebrate her remarkable life.

Those who knew Monique will also smile knowing she often said she would come back to visit those she loved. She said she didn't yet know how she would appear, but that when the time came, we would know it was her. So, in her memory, keep your eyes, your mind, and your spirit open.
