BARRE - Mildred C. Wright, 91, a longtime resident of Perrin St., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Maple Hill Assisted Living in Waterbury with her loving family at her side.
Born on December 14, 1923, at the family home in Barre, she was the youngest daughter of the late Robert and Mildred (Peer) Philip.
Millie attended Barre City Schools and was a graduate of Spaulding High School, class of 1941. While in high school and after graduation she worked at JCPenney in Barre. She also worked for a short period as a temporary secretary for the State of Vermont, working in the governor’s office.
She was married to George H. Wright on June 13, 1945. They had 65 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter 33 of Barre, being initiated on November 8, 1944. She was Worthy Matron 1953 – 1954.
Millie loved being a wife and mother. She was always active in her children’s schools, served as a Scout Den Mother and followed their sports and other activities.
She and George provided a loving home full of fun and laughter. They always welcomed friends, neighbors and the “kid’s” friends. Some of whom would still visit and have kept in touch over the years.
Millie and George’s kitchen table was a location of many happy times. Millie in the lovingly remembered “command seat”. There, many wonderful meals were shared with friends and family. Card games were played, Yahtzee, crossword puzzles, etc. They hosted many happy gatherings and this spot is where Millie welcomed and made friends of all.
She and George had a full social life as well with their close friends. They enjoyed Square Dancing, dancing and listening to the “Big Bands”, going out to eat and trips together.
She leaves behind; her sons, Robert and his wife Sandy of Barre, and Norman and his wife Diane of Tucson, AZ; her daughter, Dale and her husband Bill of Barre; her cherished grandchildren, James Morgan and his partner Kristen Deforge of Barre, Nathan Wright and his wife Lynsey of Gilbert, AZ; her granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband Tyler Bixler of Colchester; her great-grandson, Grayson Wright; her nephews, Philip Bryce and Robert Corson; and her niece, Margaret Corson.
She was predeceased by her husband, George; her sisters, Rita and her husband Robert Corson, and Velma and her husband George Bryce; and her nephew, David Corson.
Her beautiful smile, listening, kind words and overall caring will be greatly missed and long remembered.
The family wishes to thank the Maple Hill Assisted Living staff and residents for the wonderful and compassionate care, love and friendship shown to our Mom and Nana.
To honor her wishes, there will be no calling hours.
A graveside service for Millie will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00 am at Hope Cemetery, Barre.
