BARRE – Michel B. Proteau, 71, of Bolster Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at his home.
Born November 21, 1943 in St. Sebastien, Canada, Quebec, he was the son of Henri and Irene (Parent) Proteau. He attended schools in Canada.
In August of 1965, he married Colette Rancourt at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre, VT. He and Colette lived in Connecticut for 6 years. They returned to Barre in 1972 to raise their family.
Michel was self-employed as a carpenter. He enjoyed spending time outdoors; fishing, riding his four wheeler, cutting firewood, woodworking in his shed. He also enjoyed watching hockey, making puzzles, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Canadian Club of Barre.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Colette; his sons Marc Proteau and his wife, Renee, of Barre, Brian Proteau and his wife, Leslie, of Waterbury, and daughter Natalie Brewster and her husband, Kirk, of Castleton, and seven grandchildren whom he adored. He also leaves four brothers, five sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers and one sister from Quebec.
Family and friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015.
