BARRE – Michael J. Moran, 72, of Division Street passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019 at his home with his family at his side.

Born July 11, 1947 in Barre, he was the son of J. Stanley and Madyne Ida (Veino) Moran.   Michael attended local elementary schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1966.

After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was employed for twenty years, as a jet mechanic, member of the services branch, manager of the linemen exchange, a NCOIC – Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge - of a squadron and lastly as the manager of billeting at Misawa AFB in Japan and Wurtsmith AFB in Michigan.   He was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sargent in 1986.

On August 8, 1969 he married Nancy Geraldine Martin in the Mason Gospel Church in Mason, Texas.

After his career in the U.S. Air Force, Michael worked at Aubuchon Hardware in Barre and Capital Candy before becoming employed as a caregiver with Washington County Mental Health.

His memberships included the New Life Worship Church in Barre and most recently as a member of the Light House Christian Church in Montpelier.

In his spare time, Michael enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, bowling and cooking. In his later years he took up woodworking – making toys and collectibles – he was very talented in his pursuits. Michael also was a sports car enthusiast and a life-long Star Trek fan.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Gerri) Moran of Barre; his sons Christopher James and his wife, Karen and their son, Rowan of Barre; Brian Moran of Burlington; and Robert Moran and his wife, Nicole and their daughter Mollie of Barre; his father J. Stanley Moran of South Barre; his brother Jack Moran of Greenwood Lake; his former sister-in-law Donna Moran of Barre; his nephew Travis Moran and his wife, Christina and their son Hunter and daughter Olivia of Washington; his uncle Edward Moran of Brownsville, NJ; and his aunt Kathleen Moran of Williamstown.

In addition to his grandparents Jim and Una Moran; he was predeceased by his mother Madyne Ida Moran.

The memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Family and friends may call at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
