Michael Mctear

Michael McTear of Barre, VT passed suddenly on January 12th. Michael grew up in Philadelphia and was the son of John and Helen (Judy).

Michael met his wife Beth in Brigantine NJ and they were married November 18, 1979 in Atlantic City, NJ. They moved to Barre, VT in 1992 to provide a better life for their children.

Michael enjoyed meeting new people, being with family and friends, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks where he socialized with friends and volunteered his time for events held at the Barre Elks Lodge.

Michael was passionate about coaching and mentoring young basketball players in the community. He coached at Saint Monica’s and Barre City School. He was a referee for basketball associations such as AAU, BYSA, and Central Vermont Men’s League. He also had the privilege of helping the Frost Heaves Basketball Association first-hand during team practices and home games at the Barre Auditorium.

The family will be having a small private service and in lieu of cards or flowers please consider making a donation to the Barre Elks Scholarship fund in Michael’s name. Funds will be awarded to student athletes pursuing basketball in their college career.

Michael is survived by his wife Beth McTear, daughters Meghan, Lauren and Angela, grandchildren Tim, Amanda, Michael, Andee and Payton. Mother Judy, brothers Mark and John and sister Shawn.

Michael is now in heaven with his father John and brother Jim. He will be sadly missed by so many in the community.
