Michael J. Barton

BARRE CITY – Michael J. Barton, 67, a long-time resident of Park Street, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at his home.

Born on March 13, 1950, in Barre City, he was the son of Earl and Gladys (Molander) Barton. Michael attended Elementary School in Barre City and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1968.

Michael was first employed by WSKI radio as a morning disc jockey hosting the Mike Barton Show . He was later self-employed as a computer consultant for many years. He finished his career working in the IT Division of the Vermont Department of Education. For many years he was a volunteer at the Aldrich Public Library and the Barre Police Department, providing support services for their technology. He also volunteered to program voting machines for local elections.

In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering on electronics and studying physics, although most of all he loved talking with family and friends.

Survivors include his son Patrick Barton and his wife, Rachel Delanoix of Houston, TX; his daughter Jennifer Gilman and her husband, Casey of North Carolina; two granddaughters Celeste and Dalilah; his sister Vivian Lawrence and her husband, John and his brother Steven Barton, all of Barre; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents.
