BARRE – Matthew J. Barbieri, 53, of Allen Street passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at his home.

Born August 24, 1965 in Malden, Massachusetts, he was the son of Christopher and Joanne (Barnet) Barbieri.

Matthew attended elementary school in Jericho and Worcester and graduated from U-32 High School in 1983. After high school he attended Vermont Technical College and graduated with an associate of science degree in Architectural Building and Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Army Reserve.

He made his home in the central Vermont area, primarily in Northfield and Barre.

In early years, Matthew was employed as a draftsperson doing architectural design with local constructions firms and a Foreman at Bombardier. Matt was currently employed at Garden Mats.

In his spare time, he enjoyed cars, gardening, landscaping, excavating and construction and doing auto body work. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson.

Survivors include his son Ryan Niblett of Barre; his grandson Devon; his father Christopher Barbieri and his wife, Laurel; his mother Joanne Wood; his sisters Deborah Gattone and her husband, Frank of Barre; and Lisa Felch and her husband, Lester of Barre; his nieces Leah; Gillian, Erika and Allyson; as well as numerous extended family members.

He was predeceased by his step-father Raymond Wood.

A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at a later date in Spring 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an education fund for his grandson Devon Herring, payable to Edward Jones, 322 North Main Street, Suite 3, Barre, VT 05641.
